City of Lawrence
Mardi Gras Parade
We are a group of musicians in Lawrence, Kansas that come together every year to celebrate Mardi Gras in the traditional fashion: a funky parade with music, beads, glitter, and more. We will rehearse weekly leading up to the big day and then meet on Mardi Gras in front of Lucia in Downtown Lawrence. We march/stumble down Mass street stopping to play on corners, in restaurants, and anywhere else that won’t kick us out immediately. We stop in to the Free State Brewing Company for a few songs and a beer and then head back down to TerreBonne.
We do this in honor of our friends, Mike and Katie, who started this tradition after moving to Lawrence from New Orleans. They discovered we didn’t have a Mardi Gras and so they built one for us. Now it’s our responsibility to carry the Krewe De Mass flag and play these tunes to celebrate this Fat Tuesday.
All are welcome. Invite your friends. If you want to play with the band, fill out the form below.
